Privacy & Confidentiality

People come to us with the most sensitive things in their lives. Confidentiality is not a paragraph in our terms — it decides how we arrive, how we speak to you, where your report goes and how long we keep anything at all.

This page explains our practice in plain English. Our formal data protection notice is on the privacy policy page; this is how it works day to day.

We arrive in an unmarked vehicle. Nothing we carry, wear or leave behind identifies what we do. If a neighbour or a colleague asks, we are a visitor — we do not explain ourselves to anyone but you.

If being tested at home is not private enough, we will arrange a hired meeting room nearby instead, charged at cost and agreed with you in advance. Evening and weekend appointments are available for exactly this reason.

Results are released to the person examined and the person who commissioned the test, and to nobody else unless you instruct us in writing. We do not discuss your case with family members who call us, and we will not confirm to a third party that an appointment even exists.

In workplace and corporate cases, reports go to one named contact agreed at the start. Employees tested receive their own result.

The only circumstances in which we would disclose information without your instruction are where the law requires it, or where there is a credible risk of serious harm to someone. That is a genuine limit and we would rather state it than pretend otherwise.

Booking details, consent forms, test data and reports are held in access-controlled systems with encrypted transmission, and only the staff who need to work on your case can see them. Payment card details are handled entirely by our payment provider — we never see or store a card number.

We keep records only as long as we have a lawful reason to, then delete them. If you want your data removed sooner, email info@liedetectordirect.co.uk and we will confirm what we can delete and when.

The report is yours. You can share it, keep it, or ask us to destroy it. You can also ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, in line with UK data protection law.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will investigate properly. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

We do not test anyone without their informed, written consent, and we do not run "secret" tests on behalf of a third party. We do not sell or share your details for marketing, and we do not use your case as an example, even anonymously, without your permission.

Frequently asked questions

Will anyone know I have had a lie detector test?

Only the people you choose to tell. We arrive in an unmarked vehicle, carry nothing branded and release results only to you.

Who receives the report?

The person examined and whoever commissioned the test. Nothing goes anywhere else without your written instruction.

How long do you keep my data?

Only as long as we have a lawful reason to hold it, after which it is deleted. You can ask us to delete your data sooner by emailing info@liedetectordirect.co.uk.

Do you store my card details?

No. Payments are processed by our payment provider and we never see or store card numbers.

Can my partner or employer get a copy without me knowing?

No. We will not release a result to anyone other than the person tested and the person who commissioned the test, and we will not confirm an appointment exists to a third party.

Can you test someone without telling them?

Never. Written, informed consent is taken on the day and without it there is no test.
