Almost everyone we test says the same thing afterwards: it was calmer than they expected. Knowing the shape of the appointment in advance takes most of the edge off, so here it is in order.
Allow around 90 minutes in total. The examination itself is roughly 30 minutes; the rest is the conversation that makes it worth doing.
We agree a time and a place — usually your home, a workplace meeting room or a private room we arrange. You will be asked to complete a short suitability form covering sleep, medication, eye conditions and anything else that could affect data quality, plus a consent form.
Practical asks: a normal night's sleep, no alcohol or recreational drugs, take prescribed medication as usual, and a quiet room with a table, two chairs and a door that closes.
Your examiner arrives discreetly — plain clothes, unmarked car, a case of equipment. Identity is checked, the consent form is signed on the day by the person being tested, and we confirm who the result may be released to.
If more than one person is being tested, each is tested separately and privately. Nobody sits in on anybody else's examination.
This is the longest part and the most important. The examiner works through the issues with you, drafts the exact wording of each statement, and reviews it with the person being tested so there is no ambiguity about what is being asked.
It is also where practicalities get settled: what the words mean, which time period applies, and what will and will not be covered.
You sit comfortably in front of a screen with a camera in front of you. Nothing is attached to your body. There is a short practice section so you are used to the pace, then the test itself: agreed true/false statements presented in a structured, repeated order, answered with a button press.
It lasts around 30 minutes. Most people report that the hardest part is concentrating. The room stays quiet and the examiner does not interrupt.
Scoring is automated, so you get a verbal result the same day rather than waiting on a chart to be interpreted. A written report follows, setting out the questions asked, the outcome for each, and the stated accuracy of the method.
Reports are released only to the person tested and the person who commissioned the test. We will not confirm to anyone else that an appointment even took place.
The practical requirements are small but they matter to data quality. A table and two chairs in a room with a door that closes, reasonably steady lighting that is not directly behind the screen, and an agreement with anyone else in the building that the room will not be entered for an hour and a half.
Bright direct sunlight on the screen, a television on in the background or children coming in and out are the three things most likely to interrupt an examination. If your home cannot offer a quiet room, say so when you book and we will arrange a private meeting room nearby instead — that is a normal request, not an awkward one.
Our vehicles carry no branding and nothing about the appointment appears on any paperwork left at the address. Where two people are involved, we commonly arrive at a time when only the person being tested and the person who booked it are present, and the examination is carried out with the door closed.
Reports are stored securely and released only to the person entitled to them. Nobody else is told the test happened, and where a relationship breaks down afterwards we do not discuss the case with either party's family, employer or representative without written instruction.

Yes — home visits are our standard service. We also use workplace meeting rooms and private hired rooms.
No. The recorded examination is carried out one to one so the data is clean and the person being tested is not under pressure from anyone else. They can be in the house and are usually there for the results discussion afterwards.
Say so and the examination stops immediately. You do not need to give a reason. Where a test is stopped, the report records that it was not completed rather than any result.
